Summer Youth campers to launch homemade rockets
At 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 3, participants in the Rocketeering Summer Youth Camp at Penn State Lehigh Valley will hold a rocket launch in the front lawn of the campus in Center Valley. The event will be held weather permitting and the public is invited to attend.
This is the final day of the two-week camp for kids entering grades 7 through 9. The camp teaches students the principles of how rockets work and how to design and build model rockets. Here, they also learn the skills to build their own rockets from inexpensive materials. Launching the rockets is the culminating and most exciting activity of the camp.
Camp instructor, Dr. Howard Scholz, is a Penn State Lehigh Valley instructor in physics and engineering. He holds 26 years of experience in industry designing integrated circuits and is pleased to offer the camp for the second year in a row.
