Bobby Lea to compete with 2012 U.S. Olympic Cycling Team

USA Cycling has announced that Bobby Lea, a 2006 graduate of Penn State Lehigh Valley, has been chosen to compete on the 2012 U.S. Olympic Cycling Team in London, England. This year's Olympic team features 24 male and female athletes across the disciplines of road cycling, track cycling, mountain biking, and bicycle motocross.  Lea will compete in the track event, which begins Thursday, August 2.

Lea made his Olympic debut in the 2008 games in Beijing, China, where he finished 16th in the Madison. Since then, he has earned four national championships, including winning gold in the Individual Pursuit and the Omnium at the 2011 USA Cycling Elite Track National Championships. He also registered strong results at the UCI Track World Cups, placing 14th and 15th in two different 2011 World Cup events.


While at Penn State Lehigh Valley, Lea majored in business management and trained under legendary coach, Jim Young. He has been racing in Trexlertown for Team Pure Energy Cycling - ProAirHFA since 1991.  Since starting the sport at the age of 4, Lea has accumulated over 40 national championships, primarily as a track rider. He currently resides in Topton, Pennsylvania.
