Penn State energy and environment expert to discuss energy trends
Nancy Franklin, director of strategic initiatives for Outreach and Cooperative Extension at The Pennsylvania State University, and assistant director of Outreach for Penn State Institutes for Energy and the Environment, will serve as guest lecturer for the June session of SAGE at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, June 5, at Penn State Lehigh Valley’s Corporate Learning Center in Bethlehem.
Franklin will present "Energy Trends: Challenges and Opportunities." The lecture will include an overview of major energy and environment trends, the challenges and opportunities for Pennsylvania, and some of the work Penn State is doing to assist communities and organizations to manage effectively in this dynamic environment.
Nancy Franklin, Ed.D., is the director of strategic initiatives for Outreach and Cooperative Extension at The Pennsylvania State University, and assistant director of Outreach for Penn State Institutes for Energy and the Environment. She convenes the university-wide Energy and Environment Outreach Task Force and is a member of the University’s Sustainability Leadership Team. Prior to her current role, Franklin served as Virginia Tech’s Southside regional director of information technology and senior director of programs and planning at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research in Danville, Virginia, which garnered the 2007 C. Peter Magrath/W. K. Kellogg Foundation National University-Community Engagement Award. Franklin's professional experience includes 16 years in higher education administration and more than a dozen years in the information technology private sector. She earned her doctoral degree at the University of Pennsylvania in Higher Education Management in May 2008.
SAGE (Senior Adults Gaining Enrichment) is a community outreach program of Penn State Lehigh Valley designed to encourage intellectual and cultural enrichment for adults age 55 and older. In the fall and spring, the group offers a new, college-level lecture each month.
