Featured SAGE Speaker will Discuss "The Power of Seeking Forgiveness"
Kenneth Briggs, former religion editor at The New York Times, will serve as guest lecturer for the March session of SAGE at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2009 at Penn State Lehigh Valley’s Corporate Learning Center in Bethlehem.
During the session, Briggs will discuss the phenomenon of forgiveness as something that improves a person's relationship with themselves as well as others. He will also discuss some of the steps that people can take to move toward forgiveness such as understanding the real truth of the matter and being able to suspend blame.
"Forgiving is often a very difficult thing to do, but the benefits to a person's health and to how they relate to others is the great reward for meeting the challenge," says Briggs. "It is rarely easy and requires a degree of honesty, humility, and willingness of all parties involved to admit their role in the situation and prepare the way forward.
Kenneth Briggs is the author of four books including "The Power of Forgiveness," a companion book to a PBS documentary of the same name. He has worked as a journalist at various newspapers including Newsday, and is a former religion editor for The New York Times. Briggs is currently a freelance journalist, author, and adjunct professor having taught courses in journalism and American religious history at Lafayette College and Lehigh University. Originally from New England, Briggs has made the Lehigh Valley his home for roughly two decades.
