Gallery Exhibit Features Jill Stanley's "Four Seasons"
Local artist Jill Stanley will display a selection of her acrylic and watercolor paintings in a new exhibit, "Four Seasons," in the Concourse Gallery at Penn State Lehigh Valley. The exhibit opens on Wednesday, October 1, 2008 and runs through October 31, 2008.
Stanley is a self-described "devotee of color and nature," who often draws the inspiration for her paintings from her observations of those things. "In my paintings, I endeavor to capture the light at a time of day, to recall a peaceful memory or to share the beauty of a place," says Stanley. "Growing up in a small town fostered an affinity for things nostalgic and ordinary. Open landscapes, weathered barns, trees and gardens are some of my favorite subjects."
An admirer of many styles, from the ancient cave artists through the French Impressionists, the Wyeths to Warhol, Stanley says she strives to maintain her own distinct style of classic realism. Instead of college, she concentrated on a full time career as a drafter, taking evening classes in watercolor at the Baum School of Art in Allentown, PA. As a member of three art clubs, her paintings are often included in regional shows.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. The Concourse Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m., and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
