Lecture Focuses on Women in Broadcasting and Politics
"From Silence to Prominence: Women in Broadcasting and Politics" is the title for a lecture on Friday, July 11, 2008, by Dr. Nichola D. Gutgold, Associate Professor of Communication Arts and Sciences at Penn State Lehigh Valley. The lecture is part of the SAGE (Senior Adults Gaining Enrichment) series and is open to all members of the community who are age 55 and older. The program begins at 11 a.m. with lunch to follow, at the Penn State Lehigh Valley Corporate Learning Center, Bethlehem PA. Cost for this event is $10. Dr. Gutgold will focus on the roles of powerful women in broadcasting and politics in the United States and will examine their lives, careers, and communication styles as well as the obstacles and opportunities they have encountered.Dr. Gutgold’s most recent book, "Seen and Heard: The Women of Television News," demonstrates the powerful role of women broadcasters in the United States. She is also author of "Paving the Way for Madam President" which considers the prospects of a woman president and examines the bids of five women who ran for president of the United States between the years 1964-2004.
