Fulbright Scholar lectures on Cultural Concepts in Local Advertising
Yulia Belova, a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at Manship School of Mass Communication at Louisiana State University, will present her research: Cultural Concepts in Local Advertising. The lecture will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, in the Atrium of Penn State Lehigh Valley in Fogelsville.
Her presentation looks at the differences between cultural stereotype and cultural concept as they are reflected in advertising. The presentation offers cross-cultural analysis of the concept of "family", "woman", and "name" in Russian and American local advertising. Belova will also answer questions about becoming a Fulbright Scholar and her experiences in the program.
Yulia Belova is an associate professor at Cherepovets State University Department of Foreign Languages (Russia). She received her Ph.D. in 2000 with a thesis devoted to communicative aspects of emotive speech.
The lecture is open to the public and free of charge.
