Volunteers Sought to Assist with Research Project

6/28/2007 —

Area families can be part of a Penn State research project for an upcoming book. Dr. Margaret Christian, Associate Professor of English at Penn State Lehigh Valley, will feature local families in her book, My Share: Living on One Six-Billionth. Dr. Christian explains, "I've always wondered how much there is in our world—food, water, wealth, resources—and, with 6.4 billion people in the world, what one person's share looks like in different countries. Last summer I went to Thailand to profile a farming family who lives in a traditional way. I also spent several days with a 'world average' family in Bangkok who lives on about $70,000, or about $10,000 apiece—a little more than the per-capita global income. Now I’m looking for two Pennsylvania families to profile."

Dr. Christian is seeking American citizens or resident aliens (green card holders) who are willing to allow readers a glimpse of their daily lives. During three consecutive days between July 15 and July 28, 2007, Dr. Christian will visit and photograph the family's home, workplace, and other everyday haunts.

Families will be compensated for their assistance. For more information, click on Project Overview. To be considered as a participating family, click on "My Share Screening Questions" or contact Dr. Margaret Christian at 610-562-0163, or e-mail mrc1@psu.edu.
