TEAM TO PARTICIPATE IN 5K FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS
For the 11th year, a team from Penn State Lehigh Valley will participate in the Women's 5K Classic on Saturday, Oct. 14. Female faculty, staff and students will walk or run through the 5K course in Lehigh Parkway, Allentown. A contingent of male students will volunteer at the event and cheer on the Penn State Lehigh Valley team. Since 1995, more than $38,000 has been raised by the Penn State Lehigh Valley participants. Last year, approximately 75 Penn State Lehigh Valley faculty, staff and students participated in the Women's 5K Classic and raised $3,200 to promote breast cancer awareness in the Lehigh Valley. The goal of the race is to raise money for breast cancer prevention and treatment in the Lehigh Valley and encourage women to participate in activities that will enhance their physical, mental and emotional well-being. In the past, these contributions have been used to fund vital programs in the prevention and treatment of breast cancer, including research at St. Luke's Hospital and the Lehigh Valley Health Network's breast cancer awareness activities. All of the money contributed is spent here in the Lehigh Valley. The event is hosted by the Lehigh Valley Road Runners Club.
