Husband and wife professors team up to pen marketing textbook

Denise T. Ogden, Ph.D., associate professor of marketing at Penn State Lehigh Valley, and her husband James R. Ogden, Ph.D., professor of marketing at Kutztown University, have teamed up as authors of a new textbook, Marketing Basics, Cutting Through the Clutter (Kendall Hunt, 2010).

 

According to the authors, the textbook was developed as a concise source of marketing information and is targeted to instructors who teach Introduction to Marketing courses. But they note that it is also applicable for practitioners who want to gain more knowledge of what marketing is all about. Topics covered in the textbook include, developing a marketing plan, consumer decision processes, developing and segmenting a target market, and product planning and management, to name a few.

 

Denise Ogden is in her eighth year as a marketing professor at Penn State Lehigh Valley. Prior to pursuing a career in academia, she worked in public relations for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Alamosa, Colorado. In 1989, Ogden moved to Pennsylvania and joined D&B (formerly the Dun & Bradstreet Corporation), where her accomplishments included development and implementation of a diversity training program and two national awards for outstanding performance.  While at D&B she also delivered marketing training (consultative selling). In 2003, Ogden was the recipient of the Penn State Lehigh Valley Teaching Excellence Award.  Her research interests include integrated marketing communication, retailing, and multicultural elements of business. In addition to diversity consulting, her consulting firm (The Doctors Ogden Group LLC) specializes in marketing research and integrated marketing communication. She holds a doctorate (Business Administration/Marketing) from Temple University, a master's degree from De Sales University (Marketing and Quality Systems), and two bachelor's degrees (Business Administration/Marketing and Psychology) from Adams State College (CO).  She is the co-author of a retailing text and has published articles in many academic journals.

 

James R. Ogden is currently a professor of marketing at Kutztown University as well as CEO of the consulting firm The Doctors Ogden Group. He is a public and motivational speaker, having given presentations all over the world. In addition, Ogden has published in leading journals and is the author of seven books on business and integrated marketing communications. Notably, he and his consulting partner and wife (Denise T. Ogden) co-authored a textbook in retailing. He teaches classes in retailing, marketing research and IMC. Ogden holds a doctorate with concentrations in research and statistical methodology, psychology and business; a master’s degree in marketing and a bachelor’s degree in general business and business education. He has sat/sits on the board of directors for numerous corporations and has worked for an array of corporations including General Motors, Meijer, and Dun & Bradstreet. He is an expert on marketing and has testified before the house and senate in the state of Colorado as such. Ogden has been listed in over 40 "Who’s Who" publications and has been given outstanding educator awards on multiple occasions. He has also been cited for excellence in marketing education and has received the prestigious Freedom’s Foundation at Valley Forge award for excellence in economic education.
