Center Valley Cypher offers poetic food for thought
Among the new opportunities at Penn State Lehigh Valley's new campus location in Center Valley is an informal weekly lunchtime gathering aimed at poets and poetry-lovers.
Center Valley Cypher invites students and other Penn State Lehigh Valley community members to bring their lunch and a poem or two to share with the group. The weekly session will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning September 30, in room 308.
"The name ‘Cypher’ is taken from the term for an improvisational session for hip-hop artists," said Margaret Christian, associate professor of English at Penn State Lehigh Valley and emcee of the first gathering. "Participants don’t have to break-dance, rap, or improvise poetry on the spot, though—they could even bring a favorite poem to read aloud. We will give precedence to student-authored poems, however."
