2012 marks Penn State LehighValley's centennial year of educational service to the region! The campus opened its doors as one of the first permanent technical centers of The Pennsylvania State University in 1912, and has the distinction of being the oldest continuously-running campus outside of University Park.
While the campus name and location have changed over the years, its mission has not – still emphasizing Penn State's original land-grant institution mission of offering lifelong learning opportunities to the community.
100 Years of Penn State
As part of Penn State Lehigh Valley's 100th anniversary celebration, The Gallery at Penn State Lehigh Valley is recognizing the role of women in the campus' history. One interesting story takes place in the early 1940s during WWII when women were needed to support the war efforts. Penn State Lehigh Valley offered courses in drafting, chemistry, management, defense training, and more. Thousands of women enrolled in courses and became employed by local companies to help our country.
This exhibition features the work of ten artists who have participated at many Penn State campuses. They each interpreted our story in their own way.
