Focus and strategic planning are the cornerstones of today’s successful leader.

Penn State Lehigh Valley’s Contemporary Leadership Series offers a set of courses that thoroughly explore the issues of supervision and management and the skills required to be successful in a dynamic work environment.  The series is designed on common themes, using effective management principles.  The course modules can be taken individually or as a four part certificate program, to maximize professional growth and continue building life-long skills.

Cost for the four part series is $1299, cost per Module is $329 and includes all course materials, coffee and lunch.

Module 1:  The Competent Leader, February 1, 8, 15, 22, 2013, 10 AM - 2:30 PM

Core competencies of leadership are discussed in this 16-hour course as well as the changing nature of supervision.  Participants will learn more about their personal leadership style by completing and interpreting a DiSC profile.  Workplace dynamics and the concepts of Departmental Leadership and “Leading Up” are among the topics covered in The Competent Leader.

Module 2:  The Communicating Leader, March 1, 8, 15, 22, 2013, 10 AM - 2:30 PM

Key communication competencies and skill sets are explored in this 16-hour course.  Essentials (verbal, non-verbal, written) as well as modern tools and techniques for communication will be explored.  Performance management, coaching, and giving feedback are integral topics for The Communicating Leader.

Module 3:  The Contemporary Leader, April 5, 12, 19, 26, 2013, 10 AM - 2:30 PM

Concepts and cutting edge skills relevant to today’s world are covered in this 16-hour course.  Topics such as Emotional Intelligence, the multi-generational workplace, gender, race, religious and sexual diversity and cross cultural awareness in a global environment come to the forefront in The Contemporary Leader.

Module 4:  The Strategic Leader, May 3, 10, 17, 31, 2013, 10 AM - 2:30 PM

Proactive behavior is the focus of this 16-hour module.  Strategic thinking and planning, context awareness, forward thinking and succession planning are critical components of this course.   Change Management, both from the navigational perspective and from the leadership perspective will be covered.
