Spring 2013 SAGE Lecture Series Announced

2/6/2013 —

Senior Adults Gaining Enrichment (SAGE), an outreach program of Penn State Lehigh Valley, has announced the schedule for its spring 2013 four-part lecture series. Each SAGE session begins with coffee at 10:30 a.m., the featured speaker at 11 a.m., and lunch at noon. All lectures take place in room 135 at Penn State Lehigh Valley in Center Valley. The spring schedule is:

Friday, March 1
"Our Lehigh Valley, Then and Now"

Amy Burkett, station manager, PBS39/WLVT
Burkett will share her perspective on issues affecting the citizens of the Lehigh Valley as well as the changes she has seen in the community through her career in public broadcasting in the region.

Friday, Apr. 5
"The Poe You May Not Know"

Barbara Cantalupo, associate professor of English and editor of the Edgar Allan Poe Review
Although Poe's name is most often identified with stories of horror, death, and fear, this talk on Poe and the visual arts focuses on the less familiar Poe—the Poe whose early love of beauty was a strong and enduring draw.

Friday, May 3
"Experiences of a Reluctant Diplomat"

Tom Repasch, former senior adviser to the U.S. Representatives to the United Nations
Repasch will describe how the U.N. works in the complexities of today's world.

Friday, June 7
"D-Day: The 69th Anniversary of the Crusade in Europe"

David Longenbach, lecturer in history, Penn State Lehigh Valley
The talk will examine the D-Day invasion including both the Allied and German perspectives and some of the more recent examinations of the Battle for France.

Cost for individual lectures is $15 or $45 for the series, which includes coffee and networking prior to the lecture and lunch afterward. To register, contact Carol Buddock at 610-285-5059.
