Lehigh Valley Writing Project to host annual conference

The Lehigh Valley Writing Project (LVWP) will host its annual Best Practices Conference from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, at the Penn State Lehigh Valley campus in Center Valley, Pa.

The conference features interactive workshops and presentations for teachers to share professional teaching practices. The keynote presentation, "Mentor Texts and the Common Core," will be given by Rose Cappelli and Lynne Dorfman. Cappelli and Dorfman will also sign copies of their books during the conference.

Cappelli and Dorfman conduct workshops and in-services on the teaching of writing and have presented at KSRA, IRA, Reading Recovery, NCTE, and various state conferences around the country. They are the authors of Teaching Writing Domains with Mentor Texts, a resource guide for teachers published and distributed by Reading Matters, Inc., as well as Mentor Texts: Teaching Writing Through Children’s Literature K-6, Nonfi ction Mentor Texts: Teaching Informational Writing Through Children’s Literature K-8, Poetry Mentor Texts: Making Reading and Writing Connections K-8, and a video, Writing with Mentors, all published by Stenhouse Publishers.
